Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas) shot off any rumors that he may run for president in 2024, saying such a candidacy “doesn’t sound very attractive.”
Crenshaw, who was first elected to a Houston-area House seat in 2018, hasn’t ruled out running for president, telling radio host Hugh Hewitt that he’s “very much” ruling it out.
Can Dan Crenshaw run for president?
Dan Crenshaw was born in the Scottish city of Aberdeen and not naturally born in the US. However, “natural born citizen” (article 2, clause 5) of the United States Constitution is notoriously unclear. The important aspect is that a person can be termed “natural born” in two ways.
All people born in the United States are citizens of both the United States and the state in where they were born, according to the 14th Amendment.
All people born abroad to citizens of the United States are citizens of the United States under section 301 of the Immigration and Naturalization Act.
There would very certainly be legal action if a candidate ran for president who, like Crenshaw, was born overseas but to American parents. However, I believe the judges will make a hasty decision in favor of the nominee, therefore making him eligible for presidency.
